Dubai is famous for its nouveau riche.
Architecture here has taken on a very bizarre, trendy, almost outlandish role.
We were approached by an Indian family, they had seen our projects in Ahmedabad. They felt a draw .
For us this was a challenge, a controlled response was sought. One which worked climatically in the first instance.
We needed to deliver an endearing home, with comfortable spaces connected to the outside .
We chose to adapt the courtyard, as an oasis , a green space always partly shaded through the day .
Triple height circulation spaces - liwans were introduced to wrap the southern facades to create a thermos flask like insulation corridor. We built the facades to naturally shed the heat of the harsh sun by the use of sand bricks, air cavity and insulated blockwork. Planted roofs , Corten jaalis , waterbodies , thin skylights , help further control the desert climate .
Overall we have reduced the air conditioning load by 20 percent.
We wanted to deliver a project of timeless gravitas... An atmosphere of cool, a home where the young grand daughters can grow up enjoying the outdoors... The colors of the desert sky turn to the starry night sky.
